After the unification of Italy, there was the first wave of emigration, of around 500 people to the USA. The majority of them were unskilled labourers who every so often came back to the village. After 1951 there was an enormous increase in emigration to Canada and Australia. From 1,200 inhabitants at the start of the century, there are now only 500 in the village. more
